E Komo Mai  (Welcome)

Hi my name is Sofee and this is my mom, Ruth and dad, PB.  We live on the beautiful island of O'ahu .  My mom and dad work very hard and have dedicated their lives to creating Heaven on Earth!  They do that through our organic farm and the daily choices we make.

Our farm's name in Hawaiian means, "Deliciousness from the Heavens".  Along the way we have had a few challenges, but even so, we still keep going, wanting more than anything to create a model of living pono.

So what is living pono?  Well my mom explains it as living in harmony with God and Papa Honua (mother nature).  It's regenerating the aina (land) and giving back to it or fattening it (momona) instead of simply taking from it.  It's being appreciative everyday for all that we are allowed to have and making the most of what we have.  It's always seeing what can be percieved as challenges, as lessons and preparation for the work that lays ahead.  It's seeing opportunities to grow and expand our understanding of the Divine plan, rather than seeing obstacles as limits or blocks. It's understanding that we all have an important role in the grand scheme of humanity in the making and having the courage to standing up for what is right when it's appropriate to do so, rather than being complacient and comfortable. But most of all it's understanding that we are all our brother's keeper and in this game of life together and all our choices can and will have a ripple that can change another persons' life .  In short my mom says  it's living responsibly, honestly, kindly, in harmony with our papa honua (mother earth) and in generosity with each other.

Well... that's a lot to think about for a kid, but from my point of view, I think it's simply taking care of our earth, so that the earth takes care of us by giving us good nutritious foods to feed ourselves and others, and being happy with all that we are allowed to have in our lives.  I think it's also using materials that won't harm the earth, now or later.   I think that is what people are now calling "green" choices, but wait there's more; I think it is also limiting what we use in our daily lives to only what we need in the case of energy and water, and giving back more goodness to our Mother earth than we are taking.  I hear adults calling that, "reducing our carbon foot prints".

We can live a pono lifestyle in many different ways, but the way our family is doing it is by dedicating our farm as a model that will eventually generate our own electricity, collect and purify our own water, grow our own foods and build our house and buildings with green materials that nurtures our kino (body) and uhane (spirit).  When it's all pau (finished) we will share what we have learned by making the information known on this website and when my mom has experts come to work with us, she will open that up to others who want to learn in the form of workshops.  Building our farm harmoniously with old wisdom and new technology is both interesting and makes me feel like we are doing something special for the aina (land) and our fellowman.

We returned to Hawaii almost 10 years ago and have met with some rocky roads, but my mom is not willing to forfeit our dream, she says it's an important time in human history and now is the time to make important changes that she believes will dictate the future of all humanity.  She once said to me, 'since our lives are only a reflection of the dream we have created; what is your dream Sofee, what kind of life are you going to create for yourself?
